Galvan Rush Light
The Galvan Rush reel was originally launched in 2005, and was an instant success with fly fishers. Then in 2012, with feedback from their customers, Galvan reduced the weight and modified the aesthetic, giving it some of the features of their OB Reel. Some of those modifications included altering the porting on the spool face and opening up the back of the frame to their recognized, open back, try-spoke design.
The reel has a classic looking design and a sealed drag for impressive performance. My reel is the R-3 LT model, that is a great match with my 3wt fly rods for fishing here in the Southwest. I also consider it a period-correct reel for my Winston WT fly rods.
And I have to say, I'm impressed that Galvan only updates their reels when there is a significant performance reason to do so...hence, why their models are on the market for several years before we see any type of change. They don't introduce change for change sake, just to claim some exaggerated new and better reel like some of their competitors. I like that!

In early spring after getting home from fishing a mountain creek, I couldn't find my SST3 reel that I used on the stream. I looked everywhere to no avail. When I searched for a replacement SST3, there was none to be found. And, that is why I picked up this Galvan R3-LT...it's close to the performance and aesthetics of my SST reels. No sooner had the Galvan arrived, I found my lost reel, lying in the truck's rear door pocket. While relieved to find it, I also was a little perturbed at myself.
