Sportsman's Legacy by W.G. Tapply

If you have a young child showing an interest in hunting or fishing, and you're beginning the journey of teaching them the ways of outdoor life...you should read Sportsman's Legacy by William Tapply. It's a book of a father's skill, patience, and devotion for his son's education in all things regarding field, stream, and life. The relationship between Tap and his son, Bill, is special. As I was reading this book, it became clear to me that Senior "Tap" was the role model for fathers wanting the best for their kids.

I must admit the last chapter caused my eyes to water a bit. That story was a loving reminder of our passages through time and how fast the years fly by us. Life is good. Be in the moment, and enjoy!

  1. A great read. Bill also wrote other stories about his father. Reading the book tells one that if he or she did not have a Dad around, you missed a ton. I was one of those people, my own father skipped town when I was very young. From what I know, he was a sportsman. I have very little memory of him. I however, inherited that love of the outdoors from him. My mother, GOD bless her, was forced to play both roles, Dad, and Mom. She excelled at both. She never said no to driving me to fish, hunt or camp. I can remember many an opening day of trout season when she would get up with me and drive me to a local stocked brook. She would sit in the car and catch some sleep while I fished. My mother worked 2 to 3 jobs all the time to make ends meet. My worthless father offered no support. She was always tired but made sure to make every ball game, drive me to some fish or hunt spot. How glad she was when I got my license. If you have had the good fortune of having a Dad, consider yourself blessed.
