No More
Before I owned one, I always considered a 7'6" 4wt fly rod somewhat of a compromise model. No more. This Winston fly rod is a model that changed my beliefs regarding what a 7'6" 4wt rod is all about. Sure, it does have that optimum length that most 3wt rods were built upon, and that 4wt line class gives it more versatility for where stiff breezes are common. But I'm beginning to view it as more of a specialty rod...one that's appropriate for trout of any size in tight stream environments.
And this is becoming one of my favorite fly rods the more I rig it up for fly fishing adventures. It is smooth casting with a short blank to help me to hit targets ever so intuitively. This Winston WT 7'6" 4wt rod model makes for a really enjoyable day of fishing. Yup, it is becoming a regular rod in my rotation of trout streams.
A SST4 fly reel loaded with Rio LightLine WF4F fly line makes for a very nice pairing with this rod. I can't imagine a better combination of rod, reel, and line. So, that will be how I continue to rig up this WT rod of mine for next year's adventures. I can't believe I'm already talking about 2027 fishing season, but this year will be over faster than we realize.
