Winston Pure 8' 4wt
The original Pure series was launched in 2017, and was a very successful line of rods for the R.L. Winston Company. It replaced the LS series with improvements in the areas of flex profile and accuracy (my opinion, of course). While my LS 8' 4wt rod had a bit of flexy tip action in contrast to its butt section, this Pure 8' 4wt behaves in more of a smooth progression down the blank when casting.
It's a medium action rod made for gentle presentations by anglers who stalk wary trout in small to medium size streams. What do I appreciate about this rod model? I perceive a bit more control and accuracy than what I experienced with my LS rod in the same model, especially when casting beyond 35 feet to a target.
How does it compare to my WT 8' 4wt rod? The Pure 8' 4wt model is similar to the WT rod in the same model, but with a bit firmer feel in the top half of the rod. The WT 8' 4wt has a perceived feel that is a bit more progressive, bending deeper down through the blank when loading for a cast. Both are great rods, and will help an angler to have a very satisfying day on a trout stream.
I like this particular Pure model because of its smooth action when casting, and during tight line moments with trout. Others must have agreed with me because This 8' 4wt rod model was very popular among fly fishers, and Winston sold many of these 8' 4wt rods during their closeout sales period.
