The Brothers McKay by Craig Johnson

The Brothers McKay is the latest book release in the Longmire series, and I enjoyed the read very much. When I dove into the first chapter, I was immediately transported to the O'Kay Ranch with the death of Pepper McKay while fly fishing a stream in Crazy Woman Canyon. He was most likely the most hated man in Absaroka County. And it took some investigative time for Sheriff Walt Longmire to learn it was McKay's illegitimate son who first discovered his father's death, pulled his body to the bank, and then left the murder scene without telling anyone.

Walt Longmire knew suspects wouldn't be in short supply due to McKay's history in the county. However, he found his attention focused on those who had gathered for a McKay family meeting the evening before Pepper was murdered. The McKay sons' personalities were very different: a smooth talking charmer, a cosmopolitan journalist, a reclusive monk, and a half-Native ranch hand who keeps things running at their family's lodge...each had a motive, and each claimed innocence.

Old grudges and long time family secrets made Walt's job a difficult one to investigate throughout this mystery novel. And then a second body surfaces, and Walt finds himself fighting for his life by both the killer, and a wildfire trapping him in a canyon.

This is a mystery and survival thriller that tests the sheriff's legendary sense of justice, and you'll love reading it!
