Winston WT 8' 2wt

This is another fly rod model that was pretty common twenty to thirty years ago, but not so much anymore. The WT 8' 2wt fly rod is the longest fly rod in the 2wt class from Winston's WT series. I have fished this rod from tiny creeks to medium sized streams, and I have enjoyed every cast, every set of the hook. It will cast a line effortlessly from ten to forty feet on a calm day. Yes of course, it will cast a line further, but ten to forty feet is the range where sweetness in casting resides. I typically choose to fish this rod on medium sized streams with glassy smooth runs that are moving slowly.

Winston's 8' 2wt model was designed for technical dry fly fishing, and I find the rod casts flies in sizes from #12 to #22 quite delicately. When my friend, Dan Barr, sent me a 2007 Winston catalog a couple years ago, I was able to confirm 2007 was the last year for the WT 8' 2wt model. My rod came from the Twin Bridges factory in 2001...the first year for the WT rod series.

Sadly, I don't see as many 8' 2wt fly rods being made in the USA anymore. And this rod is becoming more difficult to find on the secondary market. As a result, my WT 8' 2wt rod holds a permanent spot in the quiver, and it has many more adventures in trout streams for this dry fly guy to enjoy.
