Simply Splendid

When I pulled up the weather app, it said it would be cloudy all day, with rain forecasted for tomorrow. You know what I did. I grabbed my sling pack, net, and a rod/reel combo and headed out for home waters. The temperatures were in the sixties, overcast, and I was zinging down the highway with a #14 hook and a prayer. You see, I haven't seen one single trout on my favorite streams so far this year. But, I felt lucky.

It was fantastic to be trekking down a streamside trail on such a splendid day! I wasn't there ten minutes when I hooked my first Leetle Feller on the mountain Rio. Dang, I was so relieved to get one in the net. Based on the few times I have  checked out the streams this year, I was beginning to wonder if there were any trout up in my little piece of heaven. Well, I now know there are twelve trout, because they kissed the bottom of my net. They were just Leetle Fellers, but I was absolutely delighted to play them into the net during my afternoon adventure today.

I've now got a bit of hope that fishing will be okay this year even though we haven't seen any runoff of any consequence. It will be interesting to see how this year's fishing fares with the lack of snowpack. Maybe the monsoons will save the streams and trout for a good fishing season.
