Bauer MXP1 Fly Reel

Is this the best light trout fly reel ever? Maybe. For the past several years, I have been fishing my MXP1 reel on four weight rods. It has a great adjustable star drag with initial inertia that's perfect for when a trout starts taking line. And, the reel is a large arbor with what I think are ideal dimensions, especially regarding the spool width. With a glossy black finish and classic aesthetics machined for light trout situations, there could be an argument that this reel is the best light trout reel, with adjustable drag, that I lock into a rod today. The only downside is maybe the cork drag, but it performs flawlessly and is ultra smooth. Yeah, there's no downside.

This year, I will occasionally pair it with Winston WT 7' 3wt, WT 7' 2wt, and WT 6'6' 2wt fly rods for those environments where short, 2-3wt fly rods are ideal. It may get locked into a 7'6" 3wt rod as well for certain occasions.

I like the jet black finish, round holes, and appropriate dimensions for light trout WT fly rods. Hmmm, my old 7'6" 4wt rod may get a little sad for not being paired with this reel anymore...I'll think of something.
