Scott SVS 6' 3wt

My neighbor gifted me a nice little fly rod a couple of years ago. It's a Scott SVS 6' 3wt graphite fly rod that is quite handy when fishing in very tight canopy environments. It was more of an entry rod for new fly fishers back in the day, and Scott built it with a graphite blank taper that was far better than the components they used for the final build....reel seat, cork handle, and other components were of lesser quality than the blank.

This short six-foot rod is a fabulous tool for tight, mountain creeks. So, I asked Ben of Flat Creek Rods to help me out with an upgrade, and make it look as good as it fishes. Also, changing the reel seat to be down-locking would improve the balance on this tiny stick. He replaced the metal reel seat with a cork sliding band design which turned out to be a significant improvement. He then turned down the cork handle and reshaped it for a better hold while casting and tight lining the Leetle Fellers. Ben did a great job, and I can't wait to fish it come spring!

There is a particular high altitude Rio near its headwaters, with lots of tight canopy areas. The further you work your way upstream, the tighter it gets, with the stream eventually running through a narrow rock canyon, only accessible within the stream. Most areas are bow and arrow casting only. Native RGC trout live there and I'm hoping to fool a few of those Leetle Fellers, which isn't easy to do...smartest, spookiest trout as can be. This rod will be a great fit here...
