Most Fished Rod - 2025

I keep a fishing journal on streams fished, and which fly rod(s) I have used on each respective stream. My plans at the beginning of this year were to fish 2wt rods as much as possible, thinking one of them would realize the honor of Most Fished Rod for 2025. That didn't happen, though. Home waters fished poorly this year. I tend to think the non-existent runoff had something to do with Rainy Mountain fishing a bit lousy, along with all the additional low-water dams being built on the streams.

My initial plans at the beginning of the year changed after a few spring fishing trips (no trout), to extend my driving time and search for trout beyond home waters, and that changed which rods I most frequently fished. Fishing far away streams got me out of a fishing rut, and I enjoyed the change from the usual routine. It also supported my goal to achieve the Grand Slam of Trout here in New Mexico.

Most Fished Rod in 2025 turned out to be my Winston AIR 7'6" 3wt fly rod. Honestly, I had no idea which rod would get the honor until I opened my journal, and conducted a count for each rod model fished this year. Yeah, the AIR 376 had some great fishing experiences in the many New Mexico and Colorado trout streams...much of which were well beyond my home waters!
