Back Up There

Last week, the trout were active and hitting a dry fly with aggression. It was so good, Neal and I decided to go back up there and fish this pretty little  mountain creek again. And, why not? The home waters, close to home, weren't what I would describe as good fishing. So, we made plans to repeat last week's adventure today.

Well, something changed in the mountain creek. While last week the wild trout were as active as one could hope for, this week it was just the opposite. Could ten degrees make the difference between last week and this? I mean, there were no hatches occurring that we could see. We had cloud cover which is good, but the trout just were not out to play.

Neal and I worked hard for the few catches that hit the net today...he used a nymph, and I used a dry fly. Nope, we didn't get the double-digit trout catches like last week. And, this will be the last day to fish this beautiful little creek up high on the mountain. Yup, weather is turning colder next week. Good news, last week's fishing was so good, it made up for today...big time!

Gear: Winston WT 7' 2wt fly rod; Trutta Perfetta 3'" fly reel; Rio LightLine WF3F fly line; Simms sling pack; dry flies all day.
