Peace On A Mountain

Truly, fishing a mountain stream today had nothing to do with fishing. I was depressed from the events that unfolded yesterday and needed the soothing sound of running water, and a stroll through the woods to bring me some small sense of peace into my world. The earth and the wildlife on a mountainside always remind me of the seasons and how earth moves through its lifecycle. That gives me some perspective in view of life, I suppose. And, conversations with God seem more intimate when I'm streamside and working through difficult questions with Him. I needed the solitude and the wonder of this place today.

After the overnight rains, the day was beautiful, and the forest was still dripping wet. I stepped into the stream. The rhythm, and calming effect from casting a fly into pockets of water was relaxating and it felt good. I selected a vintage and somewhat rare rod to partner with me today. The classic craftsmanship that created this rod twenty four years ago, aligned with my mood, made it easy to get back to basics with nature. I must say, releasing some feisty trout back into the stream is a good feeling...good medicine.

This rod was finished in the first week of 1991, the year Winston launched the new WT brand. The WT was basically a name change using the same technology, design, and materials to build the rods exactly the same as its predecessor, the IM6 series of rods. I've never seen another WT in this model, and so I'm thinking this is a rare one, indeed. A fabulous rod to fish, with all the great feels that Winston Traditional (WT) is known for.
