Four Days of AIR
Please know, I'm not talking about the mountain air we breathe. The title of this post is referring to the Winston AIR 7'6" 3wt fly rod I used during my most recent fishing trip in Colorado. I suppose I could have been more descriptive and clear with the title. Anyway, to the topic...this rod is the last boron 7'6" 3wt rod model that Winston will ever build (most likely). Winston didn't include a 376 model in the AIR 2 series, and they have now stopped using boron in their new generation of fly rods. As of now, they don't even sell a 7'6" 3wt model in any rod series. So, this rod is the last of its kind. You can bet I do appreciate owning and fishing it!
The Winston AIR 3wt rod accompanied me into four streams this past week, and I was impressed with just how good it was when casting a dry fly, and managing tight lines with trout. I like this rod very much. With the rod being a 7'6" 3wt model, one of my favorites, I thought it deserved a little more attention than I gave it in the previous post. I paired it up with two different fly reels during the week and both reels balanced out the rod as good as one would wish for. Yup, this is a premium light trout rod that lives up to the R.L. Winston name.
The below photos were taken on four different streams where the AIR 3wt rod roamed and fished during our last full week of August. Summer is almost history for this dry fly guy. That's okay; fall fishing will be fantastic in the mountain streams I call home waters.
That's such a nice fly rod. Maybe someday winston will make another 376 fly rod with some type of proprietary carbon formula.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, Steve...it would be a winner if they did that.
