Fisknat Net Upgrade
I have fished with a couple of Fisknat landing nets off and on for a few years now. And, I'm not sure if Fisknat is still in business? I can no longer access their website, so I fear the worse. What I do know is I really like my two nets. They have the same shape and dimensions, built with different materials and technology, from different eras of the company's history.
This week I decided to take some time to install a contemporary catch-and-release basket (from Fishpond) to lighten up the beautiful handmade wooden framed model. And oh my, the weight difference was significantly lighter with the replacement rubber basket making this landing net much more fly fishing friendly!
Removing the old basket and sewing in a new one is actually very easy and doesn't take much time at all. Below are some pictures in the primary stages of the process. I'm now looking forward to landing some trout with it on an upcoming camping and fishing trip with my buddy, Neal. Yup, this old landing net will soon be dipped into some pure rocky mountain spring waters.
That's a nice looking net. That long handle and sleek profile basket are a nice match.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve...it's about the same weight as the carbon model now. The original black rubber basket was surprisingly heavy. I like how it turned out and will surely be packing it as much as its sibling high-tech net.
DeleteDarn, I wish I had bought one of the wood editions. Beautiful net. As the saying goes, you snooze, you lose. Nice stuff- thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe design is a bit unique from other wood net companies, and the shape sets it apart from others. I don't see this model come up on the market, so I guess I got lucky finding one that didn't get used. Hope all is well your way, John.
