Drawing To A Perfect Pair - Scott
When I leave the house to spend a day on home waters, I usually take a pair of fly rods...in event the stream conditions change or for when I move to another stream. And, when deciding which rods to pack for the day, I like to "draw" out a pair with similar personalities and action (mostly).
This pair of rods has been a pleasant surprise for me. They are indeed in concert with each other, and I can only think of one other pair of rods I prefer over these two. From a distance, you cannot tell the two rods apart. They have the same handle with black aluminum sliding band hardware. The aesthetic similarities of these two rods convinced me to add the 804 model to the 773 rod. I would say they are a perfect match in view of aesthetics and most importantly...performance. The Scott G2 8' 4wt and GS 7'7" 3wt rods will not let you down on small and medium size streams. They are an impressive pair of rods!
G2 804 rod - is somewhat rare here in the states and I can't give it enough kudos for how exceptional it is on small streams. It has its own post that I published earlier this year, so I will stay out of the weeds regarding a review and just say, "if you stumble across one, get it." I've been fishing the rod with a Rio Perception WF4F fly line and like the pairing very much. The rod is accurate and intuitive when casting a line. Get on a meandering small stream through a meadow with this rod and have a very enjoyable day of fly fishing. A black Ross Colorado 2/3 reel with Rio Perception WF4F line is now the dedicated fly reel for this G2 fly rod.
GS 776 rod - you've probably read a few posts of mine regarding this 3wt fly rod. The medium action and stability of this rod is very nice. It's part of the current Scott G Series of rods and is impressive on a trout stream in both casting and managing a tight line with trout. While I mostly enjoy rigging this rod up on Colorado creeks, it can also fish comfortably on any New Mexico small stream where the length will fit. A platinum Ross Colorado 2/3 reel with Winston Energy WF3F line is the dedicated pairing for this GS fly rod.
