Fishpond Rod Bags

Fishpond doesn't sell these fly rod travel bags anymore. Which is unfortunate. They are great travel bags. I have two of them in different lengths. Still in use. One bag is 43 inches for three-piece fly rods and the other fits four-piece rods at 33 inches in length. Each carry bag contains three Winston fly rods. Yup, both rod bags include 3, 4, and 5 weight rods, but in a different rod series.

Each soft-padded bag is loaded and ready for a road trip. Not for air travel, though...I would only trust a hard sided case to take the abuse from airline luggage workers. However, these are excellent while packed inside my truck for protection, and four wheeling into back country.

The WT Rod Bag (42") holds the following three-piece fly rod models: 370; 486; and 586.

The BIIt Rod Bag (33") holds the following four-piece fly rod models: 376; 486; and 590.

My Fishpond bags have been all over the wild west from Yellowstone NP to southern Arizona, and all states in between. Some will never understand why I have two quivers in different lengths, and probably think it's a bit much. I say they are missing out on a whole bunch of fun in the Life of Fly Fishing the Beautiful Outdoors. Hmm, I think I'm beginning to channel Curt Gowdy...which is not a bad thing at all!!!

  1. Gene Hill, the great writer of Field and Stream etc. fame once wrote(something like this)
If you find something you really like, buy 2 or 3 because they will either stop making it or screw it up. Great advice.
How many times have we seen replacements not live up to the original.
Kind of explains why I own so many fishing rods etc.

    1. Yup, Gene nailed it! Whether you're talking about shotguns or fly rods, if you find a piece of gear that works perfectly and is in sync with your inner being, you better buy two of them...
