DT Price Saver Tip

The prices for fly lines are becoming quite expensive, which causes me to look at ways to save some money. If you're a small stream angler who never casts a fly line over 40 feet, I have a solution for you. And, it will not affect anything in your casting performance and/or feel on those little creeks you love to fish.

You can literally get two fly lines for the cost of one. How? Buy a DT fly line, cut it in half, and get two fly lines without any sacrifice in performance. I use Rio LightLine fly lines a lot when fly fishing little mountain creeks, in both DT and WF versions. I have noticed when fishing them, there is no difference between the two in how they feel or perform when trout fishing. Why is that? Well, weight in the first 30 feet with both of them is the same, and the 40 foot head length is mostly identical as well. So, that means with a DT line, I can cut it in half and have two lines for the price of one.

With today's fly lines, they make them with loops at both ends, so I keep the "loop" end of the line on the front so I can use a loop-to-loop connection from line to leader. Yup, it's like buying two fly lines at half price....

There are benefits of being a small stream angler, saving some money, and fishing in the prettiest places on a mountain side are just a couple of them.
