Phone Ringing...Want To Fish?

I got a call from Steve last weekend, said he's heading out of Arizona for some fly fishing and asked if I would be interested too. Yup, I was. It's rare I decline a fishing opportunity, and I didn't, so we started making plans and I cleared the deck for him to join me in New Mexico on home waters.

We've had a good week, visiting streams we have fished before in past years. However, I wanted Steve to see some new water as well. So, we spent one of the days on a river he's never fished before...just to have a new experience from past years, and it turned out to be a fabulous day in a beautiful setting. We fished five different streams this week. Yup, nothing but fun in high altitudes, on freestone streams...with a dry fly!

Must say, I'm more than a little sore today while I'm typing this post. Getting old is not for whoosies! But, I'm happy when landing a trout even though my body goes snap, crackle, and pop when reaching out to scoop up a leetle feller. So you know, I'm still excited to get on a mountain stream for some fly fishing after all these years and have intentions to do so for many more.

We were on a different stream each day and each place was a fabulous adventure! Beautiful landscapes, feisty trout, covering a lot of ground on those trout trails! And, we enjoyed fishing different rods, and selecting certain ones for particular stream environments. Always more fun with good tackle, and the right gear in the high country. Sure am happy Steve gave me that call!!!

Below are some random shots from our cameras while drifting dry flies and trekking down trout trails. And, in full disclosure, I took a dunk this week. I haven't done that in a long time. My staff was floating behind me while I was releasing a hook from a trout. When I stood up, and tried to step back, I tripped over the wading staff and took a tumble...flat on my back, filling up my hip waders. Fortunately, I didn't break anything and when I retrieved my new phone from the bottom of the river, it still worked. Yay!!!!!

Remember when I mentioned my dunk in the river? Well, I lost my vintage Brodin landing net...it went floating down stream. I kept an eye out for it when we were hiking back down stream to the truck, but didn't get lucky. Dang it! Oh well, I have another Brodin and will start using it. That's life, and it is good!

I fished three rods this week: Scott F703 black glass rod; Scott G2 804 rod; and a Winston TMF rod. The Scott's were paired with Ross Colorado fly reels and the Winston had a Hardy Lightweight LRH reel locked into it. Excellent tackle, great fishing, pretty trout, some rain, beautiful landscapes, good friends, delicious food, cold beer, and precious time used well.
