Hardly Available Anymore

The four major American rod companies (Winston, Scott, Sage, Orvis) don't include a graphite 7' 3wt rod model for small stream anglers in today's market. I guess we just are not a big enough cash stream for them? Or, they have deemed our little streams only suitable for fiberglass rods. Who knows?

And, my perception is a seven foot and something inch rod is not a true 7' rod. What's with everyone building all of these off-size rods, anyway? Yeah, I'm beating a drum! It's doubtful I'll compromise my preference for a true 7' 3wt graphite rod (made in USA) and buy some weird-length model. So, I suppose that means keeping my old, classic, graphite rods in good shape to enjoy the outdoors while wandering through trout streams.

I've been fishing a Winston WT 7' 3wt rod model for a few years now, and I just haven't found any other rod that can out perform it on tiny Rio's. An impressive rod, indeed. I'll keep looking, but not hopeful.

  1. Yea I would like a 7' 3wt sage fly rod. I do have the 7' 4wt I like. Did sage ever make a 7' 3wt fly rod. I asked ai that question and the answer I got made me chuckle.
"Yes, Sage has produced a 7' fly rod in the past. One example is the
Sage TROUT LL, which was available in lengths ranging from 7'9" to 9'0", including a 7' model. However, the Trout LL series has been discontinued.

  2. Hi Steve! I'm pretty sure Sage made this model in the TXL series back in the day. All the companies made them up until 2010 it seems. And, then? The 7' 3wt model is the most useful rod I fish in most streams I visit regularly. I don't have to change rods in different lengths when I rig this one up...it can fish anywhere just about, on home waters of mine.

  3. An ebay search did turn up a txl 370-3. The rod looks brand new in the photos or the photos are not of this used fly rod.

    1. I know the seller, it's the real deal. However, there is that same rod at another tackle dealer for $300 less. Send me an email if your interested, and I'll send you the link.
