Scott G2 8' 4wt
I have read many positive reviews from fly fishers about their G2 4wt fly rods in 8'4" and 8'8" lengths. However, I have never heard of anyone owning or fishing a Scott G2 8' 4wt rod (804/4 model). Nope, not a peep. A knowledgeable angler informed me that this rod model was most likely built for the Japanese market, which would explain why I haven't seen one. I must say, I have fished this rod enough to know it's a great fit for some beautiful streams on my rotation. It also makes for a perfect partner with my Scott GS 773 rod.
There is a little Rio that runs through a meadow and then into a canyon up on Rainy Mountain. It's one of two streams that is open enough to fish a rod over 7'6" in length. It was this stream where my G2 8' 4wt rod was introduced to our New Mexico trout. Wild brown trout to be exact. I call them Leetle Fellers after a nickname given to a R.L. Winston bamboo rod series from back in the 1930s.
For those who enjoy fishing a medium-action fly rod, it can deliver precise casts while landing a dry fly ever so gently. And, if you enjoy searching for trout feeding on top of the water, and then sneaking into position for your best cast, well, you would certainly love this rod.
There's just one problem if you're interested in a G2 804/4 model...the G2 series is a past generation replaced by the current G Series of rods. And, that G2 804/4 model is rare here in the states. Google for it and see for yourself. I just wish I knew the story behind this particular rod. Since I don't, I'll keep fishing it and create my own stories! And, I'll do it very happily, thank you.
