Extraordinary Day!
First - well, it was landing that personal best Gila trout yesterday that I mentioned in my last post. It was a monster Gila and I'll always cherish that memory!
Second - After rigging up my rod in the trailhead's parking lot this morning, I shot off a text to my brother who lives in Oklahoma and another text to my fishing buddy who lives in Arizona. You see, I discovered a few years ago that they share the same exact day of birth....day, month, and year. So I sent them both birthday wishes. Followers know I never name streams I fish, but I will say this particular stream has cell service. And, while I was on the stream, I felt a buzz in my pocket and hooked a Gila trout at the very same instant...my brother's reply to my birthday wish for him. He brought me luck with the first catch of the day. That was no coincidence. Nope, there are things in the universe we can't explain away.
Third - While sitting on the truck's tailgate taking a lunch break today, the nice couple staying in the motel's RV park (next to my motel room) came over to chat. And, we learned after a bit that we lived on the same street a few houses apart back when I was working in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. My neighbor and real estate agent while living there is their good friend. How fun it was discovering we lived in the same neighborhood! Yup, this is a small world indeed. What are the odds of meeting people on their Southwest RV road trip from Pennsylvania, who lived in the same spot you did back some thirty years ago. I love it...
This was such an awesome trip and I feel it was meant to be. I had some good trout action and called it a day about mid-afternoon. Working upstream into the canyon got more challenging the further I waded up the mountain. The Leetle Fellers were all happy I released them and hopefully they're tucked away back in their hidy holes. I’m feeling a little bushed…but, very happy!
Gear: Winston WT 7' 2wt fly rod; Bauer SST3 fly reel; Winston Energy fly line; Simms sling pack; Brodin vintage net; Same Orange Stimulator dry fly all day.

Sounds like a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt was...a nice, peaceful day on a stream. Seemed as though all the planets lined up for a great fishing day.
DeleteGood going on that personal best mike. I decided to go over there. I was on the creek for an afternoon and caught some gila. I like what they did to it.
ReplyDeleteThose clear, turquoise waters down at the bottom sure were pretty, where I got the big one. And, the more upstream one goes, more Gila trout hit the fly. Glad you got into some Gila!
DeleteWe had a big snowstorm in the wht mtns. I was going there. Changed plans. Almost didn’t go because I hurt my back working on my truck earlier. I’m glad I went. The water is pretty skinny.
ReplyDeleteIf we don't get some good monsoons here in NM, some streams will be unfishable late summer. That was a good decision to try that stream, Steve. Hope your back heals quickly, that's a bummer!!!!
