It's A Brodin...

And it's a new, unused, old stock Brodin at that. This came up for sale a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't believe my eyes. A new Brodin...and, the seller accepted my low ball offer. It's a beauty as is, but I'm going to upgrade it with a catch-and-release basket I've been saving for the right frame. The basket is from Fishpond, and with a little trimming, will be perfect for this Brodin. Catch-and-release rubber baskets are much more efficient when releasing a trout, safer too for the fish, so it's a worthwhile upgrade.

This a 'Brookie' type net and will be perfect for landing the Leetle Fellers up on Rainy Mountain. It's 18" in length, with a teardrop shaped hoop of 12" x 6". This classic has a dark hardwood frame that is almost too pretty to go romping through boulder strewn trout streams. The landing net is old enough to date back to when Brodin was crafting them in Montana, USA. I'm happy to have found this old minty net and will enjoy scooping up lots of little trout with it.

My Brodin net is extremely light and will be great for hiking through the high country to freestone streams. I like to install the C&R net myself to ensure the depth is perfect for my mountain Rio's. I don't like my nets to be too deep and prefer a shallower depth for both photographing the fish in the bottom of the net, and releasing the Leetle Feller.

For C&R replacements on my old classic nets, I like to use Fishpond or Handy-Pak replacement rubber nets. The nice thing about Fishpond replacement nets is they include the waxed twine and needle for installation.
