Winston IM6 7'6" 3wt

Anyone who occasionally clicks into my blog knows I'm passionate about Morgan-era IM6 fly rods. They just ooze with fly fishing mojo. I think at times it's the nostalgia of the fly fishing scene back in the early nineties that fascinate me with these rods. And then, when I'm fishing them I say to myself, "wow!" Yeah, nostalgia is part of it, but the main reason I'm a big fan is how they perform. I mean, I'm standing in the stream after releasing a beauty of a trout and find myself looking at the rod and chuckling with pleasure. I then catch myself, look around, to make sure no one is watching me with this goofy smile on my face...it would be embarrassing.

Creek rods are my favorite because I love fishing small streams in the southern Rockies. An IM6 7'6" 3wt fly rod built in the early ninety's is one of Winston's classic models that is pure genius and beauty.  For a few years now, I've been fishing an IM6 model that was a custom build in 1997. It has always been in my top three rods of pride and I feel fortunate to be fishing this beauty. Dang, it's better than how I describe it! The custom rod has been such a joy in my fly fishing adventures, I've often felt the urge to add an IM6 factory build from the early nineties to my classic 'Pride of Winstons'.

An early Morgan-era Winston IM6 7'6" 3wt fly rod is one of the models that Winston fishers tend to keep throughout their fly fishing life...kind of rare to see one up for re-sale. And, that's exactly my intention as well. Yup, I'll fish it as long as I'm wading into my trout streams and drifting a dry fly. This rod, built in 1994 is that good.
