No Beer - What!?
Sad to say, there will be no more beer refreshments on my camping and fishing trips going forward. Nope, the gout has changed my life forever. That five year job assignment in New Orleans introduced me to amazing cuisine and also initiated a bit of gout. It flared big time over the holidays. I'll be on a new diet this year as a result, so some of the things I enjoyed during past camping trips will be no more. That's okay, there are other foods and drinks I can still enjoy. So, here's goodbye to steaks, bacon, hamburgers, and most importantly...beer!
What will fly fishing adventures be like now that I can't enjoy a beer around the campfire or on a stream-side break? Well, I'm going to find out this year. I'll be experimenting with new liquid refreshments that are not as risky in flaring up the painful toe. You know, something like iced tea (LOL). Life is interesting and always throws curve balls at us. So, might as well go with the flow and find new joys. Hmmm, I wonder what my new joy will be in 2025?
Take care of yourself. Your family and friends will appreciate it. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThanks...I'm on a good path now and pain free. The new diet is fine and I don't miss anything, actually.
DeleteAnd, happy New Year to you and your family as well, John. Wishing you the best this year and lots of tight lines!
DeleteMike, I hope you feel better soon. Alcohol seems to be an issue with several of my friends and even myself. I haven't had any alcohol in a month. I'm trying to keep my kidney values up. Judy doesn't drink alcohol. My friday night dinner friends have stopped and cut back. We have had a few craft nonny beers and they're pretty good. Lately on my solo trips I have been drinking teas and circle k coffee. Those fresh ground coffee machines are awesome but I'm afraid their columbian coffee may be worse for me than drinking alcohol. lol. Keep up the healthy diet and I'm sure you'll feel better.
ReplyDeleteI've had pain since Thanksgiving and it finally got so intense I found myself in the ER. Steroids got me through it and now on a new diet. The alcohol is one of the main culprits along with a lot of very tasty foods. That's okay, I can live with anything as long as the pain is absent. I'll bring some coffee and tea at our next camping trip...and chicken:)...you and I can support each other with heathy foods!
