Sight Seeing
There were a couple of pull offs where I took some time to wet a line. And, there were some browns and bows that landed in the net. The overcast sky today made it perfect for fishing a dry fly and fooling the Leetle Fellers. Yeah, I always enjoy getting to wade a stream and drift a fly in November.
I decided to fish a custom made fly rod that was built by my friend Ben of Flat Creek Rods. It's an old Winston rod kit (NOS) that was made about thirty years ago, but never built out into a rod. So, it's an old classic rod that is newly built with that magic sweetness anglers found in Winston’s during the early nineties. Yeah, I love casting a line with the rod and managing a tight line with the trout.
While I was out wading a couple of streams, Sylvia was reading a new book she recently picked up. That's our routine when we are up on Rainy Mountain for a day's adventure, and we always enjoy it. The forecast is calling for colder temperatures next week and who knows how many more days will be worthwhile for fishing. We'll see...
Gear: Winston IM6 7'6" 4wt fly rod; Trutta Perfetta fly reel; Rio LightLine WF4F line; #12 Elk Hair Caddis; Simms sling pack.
Hi Mike! My goodness weren't the colors amazing? I got up to the big meadow a day after your sightseeing. The lower valley up to the village was, yes maybe post-peak, but still splendid. I love this time of year!

Hi Daniel...glad you were able to get up there to see the fall foliage before it's all gone. I love how the trees are backlit and glowing when coming down the mountain in the afternoons...so pretty! Hope your day at the big meadow was a good one. Yes, It's beginning to feel like winter today and I've got the fireplace going:) Great time of year!
