Winston Catalog - 2005

Oh man, I do miss the good old days of print media. Take this 2005 Winston Catalog for example. The graphic designer created the front and back covers to become "post cards" that are perforated along the border of each card, for easy removal, and use by a Winston fan. I love it! That kind of creativity can't be replicated with electronic media. Nope, clicking an online link isn't the same thing....there's no romance in that!

My career started out in print media as an Illustrator and then as an Art Department Manager. Graphic Artists today know about some of the techniques we used back during the print shop and publishing days. And, that's too bad...the print media years were a great time for artist in the advertising and publishing industry.

Back to Winston. This catalog year was at the mature side of what I call, the "Small Stream Rod Era" that lasted roughly from 1989 to 2011. During this period, there were many options in view of specialized fly rods for the small stream angler. All of the large rod companies were innovating with small streams as a focus during this time, and Winston created that competitive environment with a wide array of light, trout stream rods known first as the IM6 and then as the WT...the Winston Traditional.
