#Dryflyordie

When you're a dry fly guy, fishing in the winter isn't something you look forward to. Winter fishing usually means nymphs and streamers for fly fishing...and, tailwater fishing. However, there are a few occasions when the dry fly guy gets lucky and is surprised to see trout in his high altitude freestone streams, rising for the take...as I discovered this week. Fishing during January this year has been pretty awesome and satisfying to say the least.

Below are some photos of a fishing trip from a few days ago. I've never been able to say, until now, that I have two trout species checked off the "catch list" before the end of January. Yes, indeed. This week has put some browns and bows into the net for me. Life is good!

Gear: Winston WT 7' 3wt fly rod; Trutta Perfetta fly reel; Rio LightLine fly line; Elk Hair Caddis dry flies in black or tan.

    1. A very unusual day this time of year up there. This morning we woke up to several inches of snow on the ground. I've got spring fever already and can't wait for the trees to start budding out...maybe it will happen early this year:)
