The Last Trout?

This day may very well represent the last trout I bring to the net this year. I suppose it depends on the weather and family commitments. We'll see. However, I have a sneaky feeling today was the last fishing day for 2023. The weather will be turning colder and let's face it....dry fly fishing is pretty slow now that the day temperatures are turning cooler and nights are starting to drop below freezing.

I went up on Rainy Mountain today with Rich and it was absolutely a beautiful day with temperatures in the sixties and a light, occasional breeze. The fishing was very slow up until about 2:00pm and that's when the trout decided to starting rising to a dry fly. Both browns and rainbows were brought to the net and helped to end the year of fishing on a good note.

I'm now going to turn my attention to raking leaves and preparing for Thanksgiving blessings. Sylvia and I are looking forward to a traditional Thanksgiving holiday with family. And, it's also time to start putting away the fly fishing gear and starting some projects that I've been brainstorming in my head for a while. Yes, I'm mentally preparing myself for winter, snow, and all that winter brings us for the next few months. The fireplace has been cleaned and even though I'm not a fan of winter, I do like having a fire crackling in the fireplace.

Gear: Winston WT 7' 2wt fly rod; Bauer SST3 fly reel; Winston Energy fly line: #14 Black Ant dry fly.
