Taos & Trout

Sylvia and I go to Taos for a three-day trip at least a couple times each year. We enjoy the culture of Taos and find it's a great place to refresh the soul. This week, good friends went with us for some kick back time, dining, shopping (for the girls), art, and of course...a little bit of fly fishing (for the guys).

At one point in the drive (caravan) on the High Road to Taos, the guys and girls split, with the girls driving on up to Taos, and the guys driving over to a trout stream known for mostly brown trout. There are some native cutts in the stream, but we didn't go up into the headwaters far enough to seek them out. No, we were taking the easy fishing route so we could join the girls later for wine and dine time in historic Taos.

The temperature was cool and despite the bright sky, the trout were coming up for a dry fly...it was fun time working the stream. It's a canyon stream with gin clear water and just right to wade and drift a dry fly through the feeding lanes. Yep, it was all wild brown trout...just a beautiful place to play with the Leetle Fellers.

Gear: Winston WT 7' 2wt fly rod; Trutta Perfetta fly reel; Rio LightLine WF3F line; #14 Black Caddis dry fly.
