Indigenous Day

It was a holiday today. But, when you're retired, everyday is a holiday...so I went fishing. I thought it was Columbus Day, but then I learned it was Indigenous Day. So, I decided to title the post, Indigenous Trout...and then remembered that rainbow and brown trout aren't natural to our area. Especially the rainbows. They are stockers. Hmmm, at least the brown trout are wild and self populating.

Once I stopped thinking about indigenous trout, I had fun splashing through mountain creeks and playing with them on the end of a tight line. Yeah, don't think about it. Just fish. Everything becomes clear and simple again. Just fish. And while I'm up here in thin air. Just breathe. Soak it all up, Mike.

However, the confusion continued no matter how hard I focused on the moment...with all of those pretty trout I was catching. It then it occurred to me. There actually are indigenous trout in these mountains. Yep, our Rio Grande Cutthroat. Where are those guys. I used to catch them everywhere on the mountain and I haven't seen one in a long time. Where did they go? Just fish, Mike. Don't think about it. Just fish.
