Scott GS 7'7" 3wt

Scott knows how to design a light-line rod for fishing tiny mountain creeks, small streams, and medium size streams in the Rocky Mountains. For the GS 7'7" 3wt rod, Scott states this on their website:

"The small stream specialist's graphite rod. This rod  will cast a foot of fly line out the tip top for the days you fish the no name fork of the upper east fork of a creek. It will also fish hopper dropper rigs when you fish downstream in the main stem of that river system."

Personally, I have found this rod to be a blast to fish...will cast dry flies with the delicacy needed to fool the Leetle Fellers. The rod has a bit of strength down low in the blank with a sensitive tip that does a great job of handling a trout on a tight line, all the while protecting that micro thin tippet we use in our mountain creeks. It is a medium-flex rod with hollow internal ferrules, and it recovers faster than the previous generations of G branded fly rods.

I've found two fly lines I like to pair with this rod: Rio LightLine WF3F; and Rio Perception WF3F. I use the Perception line when fishing in close within the tight canopies of my home waters. The LightLine works great for me when I'm fishing more open streams like those that meander through high altitude valleys - where I can punch a line out to over 30 feet. And, those lines are spooled on a Sage Click reel and a Galvan Brookie reel. A very light kit to wander through the mountain trails and creeks.

  1. Wonderful fish! I agree, my GS773 is a pleasure to fish with. I’m using a DT3 line by 406 Lines.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I've heard all good things about the 406 fly lines...need to give them a try!
