Winston Perfect Reel
The Winston Perfect Reel was introduced in 1999 with a limited production run...as part of R.L. Winston celebrating their 90th anniversary. Yes, a few did find their way into some fly shops in the fall of 1998, but the official launch was for 1999. They made just 3,000 of these reels in total. This is a beautiful classic reel that was only available for two years and quickly became highly prized by Winston fans and fly reel collectors alike.
How did the Winston Perfect come about? Well, the Hardy Perfect was a favorite reel with the folks at the R.L. Winston company. I'm talking about an era back in the '90s. And, those at Winston liked it so much, they collaborated with Hardy to redesign the reel and offer it in three sizes (2 7/8", 3 1/8", 3 3/8"), as the "The Winston Perfect". The reel is a beautiful anodized Winston green, milled from solid aluminum bar stock, and is a great match to those classic IM6/WT fly rods that have been fished in streams all around the world.
