Longest Production Model - Winston TMF

I do believe the Winston TMF is the longest production graphite rod on the market today. I haven't researched that statement in depth, but just casual observation and known history tells me this is so. The TMF was born in 1989 and interviews with Tom Morgan quote him as saying the rod was truly his favorite rod.

Here's what Winston says about the TMF rod on their website today:

AS GREAT TODAY AS IT WAS WHEN FIRST OFFERED

Tom Morgan was the owner and rod designer at Winston from 1973 to 1991. Tom grew up fishing the spring creeks of Montana for wary brown trout, where delicate casts and perfect presentations were mandatory. In 1989, he designed a 4-weight for those exact conditions and named it the “Tom Morgan Favorite.” Over 30 years later, we still offer this exceptional rod, as it reflects Tom’s belief that “a great fly rod is always a great fly rod.” TMF rods come with a powder coated aluminum tube and logo rod sock.

I have been fishing the TMF for two years and can say without hesitation, it's my favorite rod. The only thing is, I wish my rod had the down locking reel seat that Tom Morgan preferred. The company stopped taking special orders for custom work several years ago. However, if they still did that, I would have had Tom's down locking seat on my TMF rod. Well, that wish will soon come true...I'll explain on a future post next week!
