I'm Hurtn'

Sylvia and I had a fabulous family visit this past week in Austin. We started breaking up the drive and taking two days to drive from here to Austin and back a few years ago. And, it's nice to do that. After two days of driving to New Mexico from Texas this week, I decided to go fishing with the guys on the next day. Oh boy, I'm hurtn'. However, it was all worthwhile for a beautiful day up on Rainy Mountain...good friends, good fishing, and great views on the Rios way up high on the mountain.

We fished a couple of the usual streams and each of us netted several wild browns. The stream flows were perfect. The hatches were going big time. And, the trout were active. Late morning was the best fishing due to hatches and temperatures. We could of had more cloud cover. It seemed that around 1:30pm the trout went inactive. It was like turning off a switch. However, we went to another stream and fished on until 4:30pm. We caught a few more trout there in the afternoon, but not the numbers we enjoyed in the late morning. Yes, it was a good day.

Gear: Winston WT 7' 2wt fly rod. Trutta Perfettta fly reel; Rio LightLine; Parachute Adams was the dry fly of the day.
