Family Camping

This week was a nice adventure up high on Rainy Mountain with daughter and grandkids. The boys are 4 and 10 years old and have enough energy to effectively test their grandparent's ability to keep up. I didn't even take my fly rod knowing it would be all I could do to keep the boys' fishing rods rigged up with a line and in the water. I lost count how many times I untangled lines and replaced flies. However, worth every moment of that time when hearing the excitement in their voices.

The first day took some time setting up the tent due to intermittent rainfall, and we were under the canopy cover for a while during the steady part of the rain. But, we got the camp set up in the afternoon in time for the boys to explore the area while we prepared dinner. Yeah, it was burgers and dogs for the first evening...and the second day too:) Let the boys eat what they want on their first camping trip of the year, the grandparents said.

The second day was fishing the kid's pond up the road at the hatchery and was a bit disapointing. Seems, the locals have a way to exploit their kids by keeping them close by, but the adults are doing the all fishing. Our boys are followers of rules and they didn't see the fairness with what they were observing while fishing at the pond. However, we still had a good time while there and the 4 year old became pretty good at casting his lure. No, mom is not ready for him to have an actual hook, so Papa did a lot to keep him happy while he casted away with no fish coming to the net. LOL

A few random photos of our adventures up in nature are below. Yep, kids need time off the grid from their video games and tv...and, more time on the hiking trails out in nature. Grandparents do what they can to assist...
