My "Go To" Fly Rods

I have three rods that are my "Go To Rods" for the small, medium, and large New Mexico streams that I enjoy fishing. They are the rods that I trust to efficiently work in their designated streams and in the manner I like for casting and handling trout on a tight line. Another way to say that, they're rods that are fun and intuitive when I'm fishing...all I have to do is focus on the trout feeding lanes and other stream variables (hatches) for catching a trout. And, between catches I just gawk at the beauty of the mountain...savoring the moment.

Winston BIIt 9' 5wt - a sensitive rod with the power to handle large trout. Sam Drukman was the rod designer for the BIIt series and they are his finest legacy at the Winston company. This all round rod can indeed do it all but is in its element as a dry fly rod. It is about as much fun as I can expect for a large stream rod in search for big trout.

Winston TMF 8' 4wt - this is Tom Morgan's Favorite (TMF) rod and may well be mine too. From small creeks to medium streams, this rod is an absolute dream. It fishes so intuitively that all I have to do is look at the spot I want my dry fly to land, and it happens...often followed by a big splash from a trout pouncing on my dry fly and pulling the line tight.

Winston WT 7' 3wt - this may be the best 3wt rod ever made, whether you're considering classic rods or contemporary ones. The rod has the action that is perfect for dry fly fishing and has the accuracy to land tiny dries exactly where you intend. When I'm going to fish a tiny creek or small stream, this rod goes into the truck for that day's adventure. It may share duty with a 2wt rod, but it is always in the truck when I'm heading up to Rainy Mountain.
