Drawing To A Perfect Pair - Winston BIIIx and BIII LS

When I leave the house to spend a day on home waters, I usually take a pair of fly rods...in event the stream conditions change or for when I move to another stream. And, when deciding which rods to pack for the day, I like to "draw" out a pair with similar personalities and action (mostly).

These are the first two Winston rods that I purchased for trout fishing. It was several years ago and I was still working. I thought a Winston would be a good fit for the streams I fished, so I picked up a Winston BIIIx 8'6" 5wt from the local fly shop to fix my curiosity. And, I've been a Winston fan ever since.

Winston BIIIx 586 - I've tried other rods on the larger streams I fish regularly, but keep going back to this BIIIx model. It just works for me. It's an all-round rod that can be set up to fish with light indicator nymph rigs, dry flies, streamers, and hopper/droppers. If I'm going to a new trout river, this rod gets packed because it can do anything in most stream environments.

Winston BIII LS 480 - My 4wt Winston pairs up very nicely with the BIIIx 5wt rod. It took me a while to find the proper casting stroke for it, but once I got it, the joy of fishing the rod never ends. I fished this rod more than any other rod I own last year. A great rod for small to medium size streams and very effective on those high altitude lakes in the Rocky Mountains.
