Chilly Fishing

No, the headline isn't referring to Hatch Green Chili, but chilly weather. When my buddy Steve sent me a note that he wanted to come for a visit and fishing, the weather forecast looked pretty good for this past week. And then, the forecast changed. I was a bit worried, but knew if the wind wasn't too bad the fifty something temperatures would be okay.

Each day when we would start fishing about mid-morning when temps were in the high forties,  but found the afternoons very comfortable when the temps reaching their high of about fifty five degrees. Actually, the cooler air felt great as we worked the streams. It's all about having layers of clothing too peel off or add back on as the temperatures change through the day.

Thursday was cold and rainy so we took that day off as a rest day and treated ourselves to a nice lunch at El Pintos. I must say, we found some nice meals through the week. Dinner at Tamaya and lunch at El Pinto and Sylvia's home cooking on Friday night. Good food, good friendship, good fishing. Yeah, that makes for a great week!

Friday's fishing was slow and we thought the cold on the previous day and overnight freeze gave the trout some motivation to hunker down with lock jaw. The stream we chose for the day didn't have one brown trout show its colors to us. Surprisingly, the only action we saw on that stream was a catch with a Rio Grand Cutt that somehow got into that brown trout stream. How did that happen???

As I finish writing this post, Steve is on the highway in the direction of Tuscon. We made some preliminary plans for a fishing trip in the Spring for some action in Gila country. I'm hoping the stream flows will be good there for an early spring fishing adventure....

Some random photos of our days of fishing this week are below.
