Top Dry Fly for 2021

While the same five flies tend to always work on my home waters each year, there is usually a new fly that gets plucked from the fly box and becomes a "hot fly" on streams I regularly fish. So, what was the magical fly during last year's fishing season...it was the black Flying Ant. This fly helped me get my New Mexico slam.

For the last three years, I have found the color black to work quite well in my mountain creeks and small streams. It has been a color that regardless of the type of dry fly, the trout would rise to it if drifted within their feeding lane. However, of all the black dry flies I used last year, the Flying Ant had the magic.

I wonder what the magic fly will be this year?
