Monday - Kid’s Day
The rod carrier is bolted to the truck racks and the 9 year old's fly rod is locked and loaded inside of it. He's going back to his honey hole in the morning and we're hoping the trout are hungry for some dry flies.
The kid bugged Sylvia and me nonstop last time we went fishing as to why he couldn't keep his fish. So, this time I'm packing a foam cooler so he can keep his catches. And, I'm laughing as I write this. He'll be taking home a surprise for his parents to clean and cook for him:)
I might add, these are stocker trout at the hatchery kid's pond...so I don't feel bad about the kiddo keeping a couple of his fish. I am teaching him why catch and release is important and he's almost there...
Update: We got to the kid's pond and it was surrounded by families fishing with their kids. I managed to find a spot to squeeze into on the bank and handed our grandson his fly rod. Not much action...the fish were being bombarded with power bait plopping everywhere. My grandson looked at me and said, "I think this isn't going to be good for me catching a fish...the parents are fishing and none of the kids are actually fishing?" He mentioned I was the only adult letting a kid fish. So after about an hour we packed up and went to an isolated place on the mountain for a picnic and to let the kid play. He had a blast!!!
