Orvis "Henry's Fork" 8'6" 5wt Fly Rod

 

A nice example of an early Orvis graphite rod with an action that can only be described as full flex. I purchased this rod from a local retired physician about fifteen years ago. He gave me an Orvis Battenkill III reel with it that was loaded with a 5wt fly line of some kind? I fished this kit on the San Juan for many years. It can't handle a weighted double nymph rig but is fantastic as a dry fly or dry/dropper rod when the trout are feeding on top (or just below) at the Juan.

I always fished this rod with my buddy, Brad who taught me fly fishing right after my move to New Mexico. We would take a few days off work to fish the Juan on the first week of June each year. And, I plan to fish this rod in memory of Brad next month. I haven't fished the rod since he passed away and as a result this will be a solitary trip to the river...
