Six Flies
Like many fly fishers, I have several fly boxes stuffed with an assortment of flies...something for most situations on the streams I frequent. Truth is however, I could load just six flies in a tiny fly box, stuff it in my shirt pocket, and go catch trout on any of my home waters. After a few years of fishing these streams, it's routine to tie one these flies on a 6x tippet, knowing there will be a tight line soon...well, most days.
- Black Royal Wulff
- Parachute Adams
- Beadhead Hares Ear Nymph
- Crystal Rubber Leg Stimulator
- Elk Hair Caddis
- Olive Stimulator
That black Wulff dry fly is actually for one particular stream that I fish even though I have caught many trout with it on most of my home waters. And, to be honest, any black dry fly would work on that particular stream. Land a black fly on the surface of this stream and watched a trout make a wake from the opposite bank to take the fly. Fun!
Those flies would do nicely in arizona too. The black royal wulff looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteA park ranger gave me the tip of using black on a certain stream...I'll send you the name of the stream by email.
